31 Reasons to Love January – #16

If one of your New Years resolutions has been to cut back on the coffee the good news is that Mint is a stimulant similar to caffeine and it won’t cause any jitters.

Mint can be soothing, refreshing and relaxing all at once, the amazing properties of this fresh herb are never-ending, it has been used in medicine and of course in cooking for centuries. Recent research conducted at the University of Cincinnati has shown that even just sniffing mint improves concentration. Several Japanese companies now pipe small amounts through their air conditioning systems to invigorate workers and improve productivity.

As well as boosting concentration mint is great at aiding digestion and relieving indigestion by relaxing the muscles in and around the intestine. The best way to take it is by drinking a cup of mint tea after a meal (the fresh mint tea at Zizzi’s is very popular & a must-try) it also means those after-dinner mints must be good for you! Mint also relieves the symptoms of head colds, headaches, acts as a powerful antioxidant protecting the body against the formation of cancerous cells, has calming properties and of course helps to combat bad breath- what can’t this herb do?

Show mint some love this January and your body will thank you for it.
