Enviro-friendly? Enviro-Zizzi

A couple years ago, a wonderful company called Belu approached us and wanted to be our water-guys. Now, it’s pretty hard to make bottled water stand out in a crowd but Belu certainly did (and do!) impress.

Belu is a better way to do business. They help companies like us reduce our environmental impact while using their profits to fund clean water projects. Doesn’t that just make your heart melt?

For us, it was as simple as using the plethora of green glass we have in Britain (from the heaps of wine we import) and recycling it for the glass Belu water bottles in our restaurants. Who knows, maybe the wine you had at ours last year is now part of another diner’s water bottle.

Since we switched to green glass in 2011, it’s estimated that our bottled water carbon footprint has reduced by 36 per cent. To date, the change has saved 144 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions, the same as flying from London to New York and back, 26 times.

We’re pretty chuffed to have met Belu and are very proud of the work they do. It’s lovely to be able to help out any way possible so if you want to calculate your carbon emissions and start saving the planet visit: http://carboncalculator.direct.gov.uk/index.html
