Alex Corbisiero Stands up to Cancer
There’s absolutely no doubt that Northampton loose-head, Alex Corbisiero, has all the ingredients required of a modern day rugby star. What’s less obvious, however is Alex’s source of determination; or indeed his skills in the kitchen, but it was precisely these attributes that were uncovered when Alex visited our restaurant in Twickenham to kick-off our new campaign, #ZizziTacklesCancer, in collaboration with Cancer Research UK’s Stand Up to Cancer.
I’ve grown up with a lot of pizza in my life. My grandad has a pizza restaurant in New York and after a tough match, a pizza or two is always the perfect reward!
On a more serious note, like many people in the UK, I have experienced cancer within my family, so as a cause very close to my heart, Zizzi’s campaign in conjunction with Cancer Research UK’s Stand up to Cancer was something I instantly wanted to get behind.
The #ZizziTacklesCancer campaign is aiming to raise £1 million for Cancer Research and to show my support, I have created my very own pizza which will be served in Zizzi restaurants from 1 September until the end of October. Called the ‘Classic Pesto Pollo’, the pizza has a creamy pesto base with Fior di Latte mozzarella, roast chicken, crispy prosciutto, sunblush tomatoes, roast mushrooms, spinach, roast garlic cloves & smoked garlic oil. Yes, it tastes just as good as it sounds, believe me!
My masterpiece was created in the kitchen of Zizzi’s Twickenham restaurant, where I was joined by my team mate, Jonny May. Predictably, things got a little competitive, but even though his ‘Lamb Meatball Rustica’ tasted pretty good, I think mine definitely pips it!
50p from every sale of mine or Jonny’s pizzas will be donated to Cancer Research UK’s Stand Up To Cancer so get yourselves down to your local and give them a try today!
