Max’s Story – Zizzi Tackles Cancer
Hi, I’m Max. Growing up, I was a huge rugby fan and would play as much as I could on my school lunch breaks and at weekends with my friends. When I was 10, I was diagnosed with Chronic Myloid Leukaemia, so wasn’t able to play as much because my treatment meant I had to spend a lot of time in and out of hospital.
After a 2005 bone marrow transplant, I was left unable to play the sport that I loved for years; however after I had recovered I couldn’t wait to get back into it and ended up playing at first team levels all throughout school and college – I also completed a rugby tour to New Zealand.
In July this year, I got the opportunity to meet rugby heroes Alex Corbisiero and Jonny May and watch them create their own pizzas for the Zizzi Tackles Cancer campaign. When the team at Stand Up to Cancer approached me and asked if I would help support the campaign with Alex & Jonny, I didn’t hesitate. Cancer Research UK’s Stand Up To Cancer is such a fantastic cause and I know that the translational research funded through the campaign saves lives. Zizzi and the guys are doing great things to support the development of new, kinder treatments and I am honoured to be a part of this new campaign.
