31 Reasons To Love January – #29

Not everyone chooses to drink alcohol, but those who do are probably smart to choose red wine. Every year, the research on the health benefits of red wine piles up. Here are some excellent reasons to drink red wine (in moderation of course):

Apparently people who drink more than two glasses of red wine per day have 44% fewer colds than people who don’t. Now that’s the type of statistic we like in cold ridden January!

New research shows that red wine, especially Cabernet Sauvignon, Chianti, and Merlot (the Zizzi wine list of course has some great Italian ones), contains melatonin. Melatonin regulates the body clock, so drinking a glass of red wine before bed may help you sleep.

Long life
An ingredient in red wine called resveratrol has been shown to increase lifespan.

Brain health
Resveratrol has been shown to protect against Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Research has shown a glass of red wine per day can reduce the risk of lung, prostate and breast cancer- impressive stuff.

Heart Health
Red wine has been shown to reduce the risk of heart and cardiovascular disease thanks to the resveratrol and other anti-oxidants it contains.  According to the experts, this is all the more prevalent in organic wine and we have a delicious rich, plumy organic Merlot-Syrah fromPuglia on our wine list.

So on Doctor’s orders, pop in to Zizzi, order some of the red stuff and marvel at how healthy you are.
