How to Book a Stress-Free Work Christmas Party

GUIDESHOW TO BOOK YOUR WORK CHRISTMAS PARTY WITHOUT THE STRESS

A GUIDE TO GETTING FESTIVE WITHOUT THE FAFF

You were happily getting on with your job, and now you're in charge of Christmas. Is it a compliment? Well, either way, somebody has to organise the work do. And this year it's you. You can probably look forward to WhatsApps, Slack messages, water cooler 'Can you just...'s, and a list of dietary requirements that makes Santa's list look simple. Yay.

There is another way. Here’s how to get your work Christmas party booked, without the stress.

WHY THE SIMPLEST WORK PARTIES ARE ALSO THE LEAST STRESSFUL

The best Christmas parties aren’t the most complicated ones. They're the ones where someone else does all the organising, cooking and washing up for you. A straightforward menu that covers everyone's preferences, on a single booking, with a clear price. Yes, you'll still have to do some work, and yes, you'll have to make a list of what everyone wants on the night (with special requests covered), but then you can sit back and take credit for the party you planned.

STEP 1: SORT THE DIETARY NEEDS UPFRONT

Every team’s got a mix: the ones who’ll eat anything and the ones with a list of requirements as long as your arm. Someone’s vegan. Someone else is gluten intolerant. Someone doesn’t do coriander. You don't want anyone to go hungry, and nobody wants to be an afterthought.

You can try to get around everyone, run a poll, avoid food altogether, OR just pick a Christmas menu that covers all the bases with crowd-pleasing dishes and drinks.

STEP 2: NAIL YOUR PARTY NUMBERS

There's a lot of chat about Gen Z killing office Christmas parties, so get them on side by keeping it upbeat, low-key, and with plenty of low-alcohol options. You don’t need exact numbers when you book, but you need to be pretty close. You'll usually have a bit of time to firm up your guest numbers before deposits and pre-orders are due.

STEP 3: WORK OUT YOUR FESTIVE BUDGET

The average cost of a Christmas party in London was £115.38 (£82.46 elsewhere in the UK) in 2025. It's easy to get carried away at Christmas, but you're the one who needs to rein it in. First, check if the boss is picking up all or part of the tab, and then run a quick sense check with colleagues to gauge the price they are happy to pay. You don't want anything to get in the way of a good party.

Zizzi’s Christmas menus offer two price points - £24.95 (two-course) and £29.95 (three-course) per person—making it easier to choose an option that suits your party and budget.

It's hard to go wrong with a Christmas set menu. Faster service and fewer arguments over splitting the bill. You might also find there are a few different tiers and optional drinks packages to give you flexibility on budget.

Step 4: Check the venue fits your vibe

Once you know your mix, find a restaurant that suits the crowd, in the right location. You might need private or semi-private hire if you want the party to feel like your own event, rather than a big table at the back. Pick somewhere central, easy to get to, big enough for the whole team and the right amount of festive decor.

You need somewhere with flexibility for the non-drinkers, the ones who 'just want it over by 9', and those who want to add a bit of competition.

Take Manchester, for instance. If you want an activity before or after your Christmas party in Manchester, try a restaurant near the AO Arena, Treetops Adventure Golf or King Pins Bowling Alley. The experience sets the tone and gives you something to bond over during dinner.

STEP 5: LOCK DOWN YOUR DATE

Seriously, don’t wait. December fills up fast, and the good dates go first, especially Fridays. There are only three December Fridays before Christmas Day in 2026, which adds to the argument for booking your Christmas work party on a Thursday instead. Office staff levels can be as low as 13% on Fridays and much higher on Thursdays for TWT commuters. So, Thursday could be a good shout for a more relaxed end to the week, keeping the weekend free for festive get-togethers with family and friends.

STEP 6: BOOK CHRISTMAS EARLY

The best venues and the best times are first come, first served, so the sooner it’s on the calendar, the sooner it’s off your to-do list.

You might even get a Christmas early booking offer or gift (you ought to get something for being 'it' this Christmas)... It's always worth asking the team.

HOW TO MAKE IT FEEL LIKE A PROPER CHRISTMAS PARTY

You’ve run the numbers, picked the venue and the menu, and booked this year's work Christmas party. If that all seems too easy, what else could you do?

SET THE TONE

This is Christmas, not just another after-work catch-up. Desk drop invitations, leave a couple of menus out in the breakout area, and drop invites and menus in the group chats.

PRE-ORDER FOOD, IF YOU CAN

Fewer decisions on the night means faster service and more time for the important stuff (i.e. gossip, gifts). Same for drinks - just make sure there is a mix or stick to non-alcoholic options to avoid any awkwardness.

GIFTS AND SECRET SANTA

Secret Santa gets mixed reviews, especially with Gen Z. If it's a tradition you want to keep, think about thrifting and second-hand gifts to keep it less wasteful.

Zizzi Italian Restaurants

It all started in Chiswick, with a little neighbourhood Italian restaurant, one pizza oven and a few glasses of wine. Fast forward 27 years, and we’ve got over 130 Italian restaurants. Sounds like a lot now we’ve written it down. We’re still doing things our way. Bowlfuls of pasta, pizzas with light, crispy bases, generous portions and food that makes you go “oooooo” when it hits the table. And dessert? Always. Life’s too short to skip the sweet stuff. Come hungry. Leave happy.
